Confirm What Will Be Removed, Sealed and Refinished
An insert installation keeps a suitable existing frame and replaces the operating window within it. A full-frame installation removes more of the old assembly and exposes the rough opening. The existing condition determines which approach makes sense.
Perimeter insulation, exterior sealant, capping and interior trim are separate parts of the finished opening. The proposal should state which parts are included so two prices can be compared fairly.

Select the Method After the Existing Frame Is Checked
The least disruptive method is only useful when the material being retained is sound and properly located.
Full-Frame Replacement
The complete window unit is removed so the rough opening can be inspected. This method allows new flashing, insulation and finishes to be planned around the replacement frame.
Interior and Exterior Finish
Trim, jamb extensions, exterior capping and sealant complete the visible work. Colour, profile and repair limits should be selected before the installation date.
Prepare for installation day
Access and Weather Affect the Daily Work Plan
Furniture and window coverings need enough clearance for safe access. Exterior obstacles, upper-storey access and parking for materials should be discussed in advance.
Openings are normally handled in a sequence that limits exposure. If weather would compromise sealing or interior protection, the schedule should be adjusted rather than forcing the work.
